Carriage protection

Configuration of HI-FOG® carriage system is flexible, allowing, for example, one pump unit to protect several carriages. Alternatively, two pump units can be combined to work simultaneously for protecting the whole train-set. The system can be installed with pop-out sprinkler heads (precision protection) or spray heads (zone protection). In HI-FOG® carriage protection systems water mist is always discharged locally.

Precision protection

As part of a HI-FOG® system for rolling stock, the new pop-out sprinkler provides many benefits for fire protection of passenger compartments.

HI-FOG® pop-out sprinklers offer an excellent combination of fire fighting performance and improved system reliability. The hidden pop-out sprinkler activates after a fire has been detected and ambient temperature is high enough. Water mist is discharged only in the exact location of the fire.

Benefits for manufactures and operators:
  • Improved reliability

  • Lower lifecycle costs

  • Lower total weight

  • Lower space requirements

  • Improved aesthetics

Benefits for passengers:
  • Excellent fire fighting performance

  • Reduced risk of false discharges

  • Better visibility during discharge

Zone protection

For solutions requiring zone protection, the HI-FOG® system is fitted with spray heads and section valves. Discharge areas are divided into zones according to installation-specific requirements.

Activation of this type of system is usually manual. This eliminates need to wait for heat accumulation to activate the system as well as significantly reduces risk of false activation.

HI-FOG® cylinder units

HI-FOG cylinder unit (MAU)
The standard pump unit consists of a gas (nitrogen or compressed air) cylinder and one or more water cylinders. These self-contained units are mounted above or below the passenger carriage(s) and can be positioned horizontally or vertically to fit the available space. They can be installed inside the carriage as well. Normally no electrical power is required beyond the activation signal for the pump unit.
