STOCKHOLM: Founded in 1934 by Olof Wallenius, Wallenius Lines is an important player in the global marine transportation and logistics market. Together with its partners, Wallenius operates a fleet of about 180 vessels, specializing in car and truck carrying. Its car and truck carriers are some of the world’s largest, with loading capacities ranging between 3,000 and 8,000 vehicles. The fleet is growing. Over the next three years, some 40 new ships will go into service worldwide.

Wallenius is known for its steadfast commitment to quality (ISO 9001:2000 certified), safety and environmental principles (ISO 14001:2004 certified). As a car and truck carrier leading the way in these areas, the company decided to bring 27 of its ships in line with the IMO MSC circ 913 fire protection standards by installing the HI-FOG® Water Mist Fire Protection System. Wallenius Lines’ HI-FOG® systems are of the extended local application type, protecting engine room hot spots including main engines, auxiliary engines, purifiers and boiler fronts. The IMO MSC circ 913 standard went into effect in 2005 for new passenger ships but it does not apply to existing car and truck carriers built before 2005.

Marioff’s unrivalled track record of turnkey installation was an important factor in winning the contract. Marioff has successfully carried out several hundred installations on ships both at sea and in dock. Logistically, this retrofit program is especially challenging: some of the systems are being installed on ships while they are in service, some are being installed on ships docked in any number of harbours around the world. To succeed with a program like this, expert coordination of materials and labor is vital. Working closely with selected subcontractors, Marioff created dedicated teams for the job: very skilled and experienced installers are used in order to minimize installation time and the risk of mistakes. By mid-2008, 27 Wallenius ships will be protected by HI-FOG®.

Marioff is proud to have received this order from Wallenius Lines, known throughout the industry for their dedication to safety and environmental principles.
