Marioff launches new solution for trains

HELSINKI, FINLAND, September 6, 2010 - At this year’s Innotrans exhibition in Berlin, 21-24 September, Marioff will launch HI-FOG^® pop-out sprinklers for rolling stock. The new sprinklers will be displayed with live demonstrations at the Marioff stand in Hall 5.2, booth 24. Marioff is part of UTC Fire & Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).

The unique pop-out sprinklers are a recent innovation to the HI-FOG^® high pressure water mist system for rolling stock. New features include a horizontal heat bulb which minimizes the height of the sprinkler making it easy to install unobtrusively. Additionally, the sprinkler is concealed under a protective plate which reduces the risk of vandalism.

After the system is activated, these heat-sensitive sprinklers are designed to react only near the actual fire which helps to reduce the discharge area and increase pressure on the sprinklers, improving fire fighting performance. The smaller discharge area also leads to better visibility and less water damage. Additionally, space and weight demands are minimized because less water is required. “One of the key drivers behind this development is the Italian legislation Decreto Gallerie which requires active fire protection for all new rolling stock after April 2011. Existing rolling stock must be retro-fitted to comply with the legislation by April 2019. Similar requirements might be introduced more widely throughout Europe in the near future“ said Francesco Capuzzi, Key Account Manager, Rolling Stock.
