HI-FOG® for London Marriott hotel
4 April 2000

The Marriott Hotel Group has a history of embracing innovative fire protection methods. So when the Whitbread Hotel Company, who operate the Marriott franchise in the UK, decided to comprehensively refurbish their prestigious Marriott Regents Park Hotel in London, they decided to take a closer look at water mist technology.

The result was a contract for a HI-FOG system to protect all 303 bedrooms as well as all corridors and ground floor public spaces, reception rooms, bars and restaurants. Marioff is taking turnkey management responsibility to ensure minimum disruption and inconvenience to guests, as the Hotel will continue to operate during the refurbishing programme.

Marioff convinced the clients that a HI-FOG system, similar to that being installed on cruise ships worldwide, would provide equal or superior fire protection as well as being cost-effective compared to a conventional sprinkler system.

Marioff's UK Sales Director, Ray Ackland said: "HI-FOG was competitive for this contract due to the small size of the tubing, the reduced amount of 'exposed' tubing, made possible with the new 'side-wall' mounted HI-FOG sprinklers, and the reduced water storage requirement at site. An addition benefit for the client is the significantly reduced risk of water damage in the event of discharge."

Sonny Scarff, Corporate Fire Protection Director for Marriott Hotels Worldwide commented: "HI-FOG is a cost-effective, high-performance system that provides the level of fire protection and life safety that Marriott and Whitbread are committed to for our guests and employees. We look forward to its initial installation and test at the Regents Park Hotel."

Marioff is confident that this contract will lead to a dramatic increase for similar applications, where the installed cost for HI-FOG in land-based business, compared to conventional sprinklers, is now finally being realised.
