HI-FOG® for world's largest cruise vessel
29 November 1999

In the new millenium the passengers and crew of the world’s largest passenger cruise vessel can sail in the comfort of knowing that the vessel is protected throughout by a comprehensive HI-FOG water mist fire protection system.

Royal Caribbean International´s 142.000-ton, 3.100 passenger capacity Voyager of the Seas sailed from shipyard Kvaerner-Masa in Finland on 1st November and has already started her cruise vacations around the Western Caribbean.

Voyager of the Seas

The 311m long vessel's fire protection system, the biggest to date on any vessel, has been developed by Marioff in conjunction with the ship's owners and builder. The system features total protection for all accommodation and service areas as well as local protection in machinery spaces.

The HIFOG installation, carried out by the shipyard, also involves around 60 km of stainless steel piping. The remaining two vessels in this series, Explorer of the Seas and Adventure of theSeas, due for delivery in the autumn of 2000 and spring 2002, are also being fitted with the same HI-FOG system.

HI-FOG System Features:

  • 11,000 HI-FOG sprinklers in accommodation areas
  • 300 HI-FOG spray heads in machinery spaces
  • 88 section valves
  • SPAU 8+1 pump unit

Luxury and safery onboard Voyager of the Seas

Voyager of the Seas is the first cruise ship to offer vacationers ice-skating, a rock climbing wall 200 feet above sea level, a full-size basketball court, a 1350-seat Broadway-style theater, a golf course, and the largest casino afloat.

HI-FOG was chosen because the shipowner wanted a lightweight and reliable high-performance system, and the yard needed a supplier who had the manufacturing capability and experience to provide a trouble-free service for this high-profile and fast-track project. Anyone who doubts the capability of HI-FOG to protect virtually any kind of space on land or sea needs only to take a trip on this vessel!
