Marioff is proud to announce that Antti Hurme, Director of Solutions at Marioff, has been elected as a Member of the Board of Directors of the International Water Mist Association (IWMA). His appointment was confirmed during the IWMA members’ meeting held alongside the annual International Water Mist Conference in Manchester, United Kingdom.
The IWMA Board of Directors brings together a diverse group of experts representing scientific institutions, insurance and consulting companies, and manufacturers from across the water mist fire protection industry. With their collective expertise, the Board steers the association’s strategic direction, promotes water mist technology, and drives forward international standardization efforts.
I’m excited to contribute to the continued growth and recognition of water mist technology as an effective and sustainable fire protection solution — and to collaborate with such a dedicated community.
“I’m honored to share that I have been elected to the Board of Directors of the International Water Mist Association (IWMA),” said Antti Hurme. “A heartfelt thank you to the members, the board of directors, and of course Max Lakkonen and Bettina McDowell for the warm welcome and trust you’ve placed in me. I’m excited to contribute to the continued growth and recognition of water mist technology as an effective and sustainable fire protection solution — and to collaborate with such a dedicated community. Looking forward to the journey ahead!”
A recognition of expertise and leadership
With decades of experience in water mist fire protection, Marioff has long played an active role in the IWMA community. Antti’s appointment to the Board is both a recognition of his personal expertise and a reflection of Marioff’s ongoing commitment to the advancement of high-pressure water mist technology as a reliable, sustainable solution for fire safety.
In his current role as Director of Solutions, Antti leads Marioff’s global solution development efforts, ensuring that customers across industries benefit from technically sound, tailored fire protection systems. His combination of deep engineering knowledge and forward-thinking perspective aligns closely with IWMA’s mission to promote research, innovation, and awareness within the field.
Continuing a strong legacy
Antti succeeds Markku Vuorisalo, who has served on the IWMA Board with distinction for several years and is now stepping down in connection with his upcoming retirement. Under Markku’s tenure, the IWMA strengthened its global presence and continued to champion water mist as a proven, sustainable fire protection technology.
“We are deeply grateful to Markku for his long-standing contribution to the IWMA community,” said Juha Ilvonen. “His expertise and dedication have helped shape the development of water mist technology and standards over the years. We’re delighted that Antti will continue this strong legacy and bring his own forward-looking vision to the association’s work.”
As a mark of appreciation, the IWMA has added Markku to its list of honorary members, recognizing his lasting impact and continued connection to the association.

Driving innovation and sustainability in fire protection
The International Water Mist Association plays a crucial role in promoting water mist technology as an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional fire suppression systems. By facilitating knowledge exchange between manufacturers, researchers, and regulatory bodies, IWMA helps advance global standards and best practices.
Marioff, as a pioneer of high-pressure water mist technology and the manufacturer of the HI-FOG® system, shares this mission. The company’s participation in IWMA’s work ensures that the voice of practical engineering and innovation remains central to the conversation about the future of sustainable fire protection.
