Marioff improves supply chain transparency with new supplier portal
Understanding the sustainability performance of a global supplier network requires reliable and comparable data, but gathering it is not always straightforward. At Marioff, information had traditionally been collected through multiple touchpoints, making it difficult to form a complete picture. To address this, Marioff took a step towards more structured and transparent data collection in 2026.
Sustainability data today plays a central role across the value chain, from regulatory compliance to supporting customer requirements and guiding internal development.
As expectations for transparency have increased, Marioff recognized the need to further develop how supplier sustainability information is collected, managed, and used. A more consistent approach would make it easier to compare data, identify risks, and support decision-making across the supply chain.
“Marioff has always collected sustainability-related information from its suppliers, but the process has not been unified. Data was gathered during contract negotiations, audits, and on-site visits. The new portal now brings these processes together into one framework,” explains Marioff’s Global Sourcing Director Tuomo Tiainen, who first suggested the implementation of a supplier portal.
Building a more unified way of working with suppliers
To support this shift, Marioff evaluated existing solutions that could provide a scalable and easy-to-use framework for supplier collaboration, ultimately selecting the cloud-based platform IntegrityNext.
“We wanted to avoid having to build an in-house solution, especially since suitable systems already existed. It was also beneficial that many of our suppliers were already familiar with the selected portal. The portal provides a strong foundation that we can continue to develop going forward,” Tiainen says.
Today, Marioff’s entire supplier base is part of this more structured approach. This enables the company to collect and maintain key sustainability information, such as certifications, documentation, and action plans, in a more consistent and comparable way.
All suppliers have received Marioff’s updated Supplier Code of Conduct to review and sign through the portal. In addition, approximately a quarter of the company’s most important suppliers have received more extensive questionnaire invitations.
Sustainability data supports Marioff’s operations
A more structured approach to data collection also makes it possible to assess supplier sustainability from a broader, more analytical perspective. Significant effort has gone into developing questionnaires that cover key sustainability topics. Marioff has defined 10 ESG-related topic areas that now form the basis for assessing supplier-related risks.
“The structured data helps us identify country-specific and industry-related risks more clearly. It also strengthens how sustainability is integrated into our overall supplier performance evaluation,” Tiainen explains.
Another key benefit is improved visibility. With more structured data, Marioff can generate clearer reports and company-level overviews, supporting both internal management and external reporting, including annual sustainability reporting.
Transparency benefits all parties
The approach also supports suppliers in developing their own operations. Through the system, suppliers can use shared information and feedback to improve their sustainability performance, internal processes, and overall business development.
At the same time, it helps ensure clearer and more consistent expectations across Marioff’s supplier network.
Marioff has long maintained close relationships with its suppliers, supported by a thorough onboarding process, regular on-site visits, and long-term cooperation. These practices play a key role in managing ESG-related risks.
“This builds on our existing way of working with suppliers by making sustainability information easier to manage and use in practice,” Tiainen concludes.
